We never had a boat growing up, but parents still did their best to get me out on the water. Banks, beaches, creeks… I learned to find fish in any little puddle. The nostalgia of those warm summer nights camping, crabbing and fishing San Luis Pass bridges and Texas City Dike is a what I find myself chasing and passing down to the next generation. Being apart of a movement to get more folks outdoors and on the water is imperative to our future and I am so honored to recognized as a partner in this space to get more women on the water. - Cindy

Connecting with others of like minded interests and initiatives is vital to me. I have been blessed over the years in the fishing and outdoors with a network of friends and inspiring anglers, content creators and stewards of our environment. I met Ashley Nicole Lewis and this group of incredible women through collaborations with The Recreational Fishing and Boating Foundation/Takemefishing.org and Yamaha Outboards. Recently, Ash reached out to us for an impromptu Q&A and catch up via Zoom as the recent times have somewhat hindered our travels and activities as a group.

Growing up, we lived near Houston, and I remember being in the car with my parents on the way to Pasadena when another vehicle tried to pull us over. This was when I was really young. And you know, there's the KKK out here, so I remember my dad was like, ‘Don't stop, don't stop.’ Every time I go to Pasadena, that's the first thing I think about.

Columbia pro staffer Cindy Nguyen dances with a tail-walking sailfish. An accomplished inshore and fly fisherman, Nguyen had never caught a billfish. Her enthusiasm for the fight was infectious to the rest of us. One truth I documented with our all-women team: This trip was all about fun and encouragement.
We love fish. Sure, catch and release is our norm as it’s the only way to protect game fish-from Native Trout to Sailfish and Marlin. But sometimes, in areas where the fish population isn’t endangered and regulations allow, we have the honor of taking a few of nature’s bounty home for dinner. We spoke with Columbia athlete and ace angler, Cindy Nguyen, about how she became involved in this sport of sports.
Meet Cindy Nguyen, Professional Angler, is the latest addition to the Columbia PFG Team and the first woman to join the group. We caught up with her in her home in Texas, where she was gearing up for another great redfish season.
